Phlebotomy

The Phlebotomy Certificate of Technical Studies (CTS) is designed to teach the technical and procedural aspects of basic phlebotomy, including collection of blood specimens and venipuncture.  This program includes theory and hands-on instruction and will teach students the concepts of phlebotomy and infection control, legal issues in healthcare, introduction to human anatomy and physiology, phlebotomy equipment and supplies, and phlebotomy procedures. Successful Phlebotomy CTS recipients will be prepared to take a Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) exam. 

7 credit Certificate of Technical Skill in Phlebotomy: With a goal of preparing students for the ASCP Phlebotomy Technician certification exam, this certificate will require 40 classroom hours, 100 hours of clinical experience and 100 successful unaided collections. This criterion will be provided through three credits of relevant coursework, one credit of lab, and four clinical credits. Courses will include AHMA 220–Phlebotomy, a corresponding lab, and AHMA 221–Phlebotomy Clinical Training. Clinical hours will be completed at local hospital and clinic locations.
