CAS in Medical Assistant

Program Description

Students completing the Certificate of Applied Science-Medical Assistant will acquire the skills necessary for entry-level jobs in medical settings.  Graduates are prepared to work in ambulatory medical settings such as physicians' offices, medical/dental clinics, surgical centers and hospital environments; they function as members of the health care delivery team and perform administrative duties and basic clinical procedures. A grade of "C-" or above is required for all courses for graduation.

Program Learning Outcomes

  • Recognize medical terms as related to human, physiology, and pathology.
  • Practice clinical tests and procedures including Phlebotomy, CLIA waived tests, vital signs, assist with specialty exams, and injections.
  • Determine the proper dosage and administration method for medication and vaccinations.
  • Prepare and document patient medical records per accreditation and regulatory standards.
  • Communicate professionally with patients and healthcare team in office and clinical settings.
  • Practice infection control and safety protocols in healthcare settings.
